The beginning of a new year is an inspiring time full of new energy and reflections of the past. Since 2020 marks the beginning of a brand-new decade, we want to begin on the right foot and move forward with intention. When you start your new year off right, you can set the tone for the rest of your year. Here are a few easy ways to ring in the new year positively and confidently.
Review the past year.
What did you accomplish in 2019? What didn’t you accomplish that you wanted to? What were some of the best moments? What were some of the lowest? Reflecting on the previous year to note any mistakes, regrets, or unaccomplished goals can help you move forward in the right direction this year.
Outline your future.
Yes, it is cliché, but setting goals or even making a 2020 to-do list can help frame your year. If traditional goals aren’t your thing, come up with a few words or phrases you want to use to embody the year. Write down these items and put the list in a place where you will look at it every day. This list can serve as a daily reminder so you don’t lose track of where you want to be or what you want to do this year.
Clean your space.
Starting the year off in a clean home is a great starting point for the year. A clean, decluttered space will allow you to focus on other more important things and move forward into the year. A clean and clear space will give you peace of mind to start the new decade.
Carve out time.
Spending quality time with your people, whether that’s family, friends, coworkers, or whoever, is a great way to start the year. Surrounding yourself with positive people you love and care about is a way to embrace the new year and proceed with confidence.
Embrace positive thoughts.
Embracing and empowering yourself through positive thoughts will help propel you throughout the year. Seeing the silver lining in all aspects of your life can help frame a new perspective and embrace an attitude to live your best life.
Think of others.
The beginning of the year can be a great time to focus on you, but what can you be doing to help others, as well? Giving back can be as simple as complimenting a stranger, donating to your favorite charity or paying it forward in the Starbucks line. You could lend a helping hand to a neighbor or participate in something more formal like volunteer work. Helping or giving back to others doesn’t have to be a burden on your own life and goals.
