It's time to decide where you want to live. Should you stay in your current city or move somewhere new? Maybe it's time for a change of scenery. 1. Consider the Commute
Now for the fun part. The place you live should be somewhere that offers a commute that's close to your work, but also close enough to the things that you enjoy in life such as food, coffee, and nightlife. Do you enjoy the beach or perhaps the mountains? Make sure this is somewhere you want to live long-term.
2. Consider the Cost of Living
It's important to look at how much money you are spending on rent, food and the other necessities of life. If your commute is close but you end up spending through the roof in rent/mortgage payments, then perhaps you might want to move somewhere else.
3. Consider Your Family's Needs
Maybe your family is from somewhere else and you want to relocate them close to their relatives. This might also be something that they would enjoy as well, so it's important not only to think about yourself but others who live with you.
4. Consider What You Want to do With Your Home - Resell, Rent out, or Live in it For Yourself?
If you currently own a home, it's important to think about how you will proceed. You may be able to turn that home into a rental property and generate income as you settle into your new city.
5. Think About Where You Can Save Money on Utilities like Gas and Electricity
The average cost of gas and electricity in some cities is much higher than in others. If you're considering moving to a more expensive city, it might be worthwhile to first compare the utility costs before making that decision.
6. Think About Whether There Are Any Schools Nearby that Would be a Good Fit for Your Children
If you have kids, it might be worth looking into whether there are any schools nearby that would be a good fit for them. Often times a new town may have incredible schools but the areas that are affordable are zoned for less than stellar school zones. If you have children this may not be acceptable for you.
